Dhaka’s Climate Action Plan: A Step Towards Carbon Neutrality

In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Dhaka North and South City Corporations have unveiled the city’s first-ever Climate Action Plans. These plans aim to make Dhaka carbon-neutral by 2050, aligning with Bangladesh’s national commitment to reduce emissions by 89.47 MtCO2e by 2030.

The action plans encompass various strategies, including promoting renewable energy, enhancing public transportation, and implementing green infrastructure projects. These initiatives are designed to mitigate the impacts of climate change, improve air quality, and enhance the overall quality of life for Dhaka’s residents.

Public participation is a cornerstone of these plans. Community engagement programs aim to raise awareness about sustainable practices and encourage citizen involvement in environmental conservation efforts.

While challenges such as funding and infrastructural limitations exist, Dhaka’s proactive approach serves as a model for other cities grappling with the adverse effects of climate change. Continued commitment and collaboration among government agencies, private sectors, and the public are vital for the successful implementation of these plans.
